Vaginoplasty can be classified into two groups. The first one is the plastic procedure on the externally visible area and the second is vaginal tightening.

In the procedure medically called LABIOPLASTY, the intervention area consists of the labia minora (inner labia) and labia majora (outer labia), the parts of the female genital organ that can be seen externally. When this area is large and loose, it offers an unpleasant view and provides a favorable environment for infections such as fungal infections. Furthermore, it may cause disturbance and pain by stretching and getting stuck in between during sexual intercourse. The procedure involves reducing and contouring the inner and outer labia to establish a balance between them. This procedure can be performed under both general and local anaesthesia. Following a procedure that takes 30 to 45 minutes, the patient can have a bath in 2 days. The patient can comfortably urinate in the meantime. This operation does not harm or rupture the hymen.

Usually, absorbable sutures are used and complete healing takes 1 or 2 weeks. These labia are sometimes excessively thin, a condition that can be treated with fat injection (patient’s own fat is used).

Vaginal tightening, on the other hand, is an operation that concerns the inside of the vagina starting from its outer entrance. It is performed in order to tighten this area which can have tissues too loose and wide congenitally or due to various reasons such as giving birth. Similarly, absorbable sutures are used for this operation.

Plastic surgery for these two areas are often performed at the same time. If there are complaints that involve the uterus such as herniation or incontinence, the operation is performed through the joint involvement of a Plastic Surgeon and a Gynecologist.
